Building Your Safety Ministry
From the Ground Up
In-person and Online Training and Consulting
Recent statistics show that one of the biggest factors in a family’s decision to go to a particular church is whether or not it is a physically, emotionally, and spiritually safe place. Almost all churches have ministries to facilitate emotional and spiritual safety, but what about physical safety? Is your church prepared for emergencies? Zero 5 Safety Training will not only help your church be prepared, but also help you turn physical safety into its own ministry. Zero 5’s training and consulting will make your church into the welcoming safe haven that people long for.

FAQ
Does my church need a Safety Team?
The short answer is YES. Aside from protecting the church and its members, church safety teams are a great ministry opportunity to reach veterans, first responders, and others within your church who feel they don’t fit in with the typical church ministries.
Where do we start to build a Safety Team?
The first thing you can do is get your church leadership to realize the need for a safety team. The next step is to gather information on what protections churches have legally to form safety teams. Then your church needs to identify someone to lead the team, and start the building process. We have extensive experience building safety teams from the ground up and can help you in every step of the process.
Why not just hire off-duty police?
Off duty police can be expensive. Especially, when you have multiple services on a Sunday, and if you want weekday events protected as well. Also, when you hire an off duty officer, that officer does not have the same vested interest in the protection and welfare of the congregation as a church member on the safety team would. Furthermore, by hiring off-duty police your church is missing out on a tremendous ministry opportunity.
Is it true that church insurance companies prefer safety teams to have limited training?
Unfortunately, that is the case with some church insurance companies. Their preference is to rely purely on the presence of a team to be a deterrent potential violence. They also prefer to have deniability should an incident occur, and be able to claim that the team was not trained to handle such an event. While this protects the insurance company, it does nothing to protect your congregation. A well-organized, well-trained team is a far greater deterrent and protective force than one that is untrained and unorganized.
What training do you provide for Safety Teams?
It depends on the skill sets that you want your team to have. We offer training in firearms, verbal de-escalation, medical response, and active violence emergency response plans. We can also help your church develop a customized active attack response plan and preventative security posture.
How long does it take to get a church Safety Team up and running?
That depends on the decision-making timelines of your church leadership, and the availability of team members for training. To have a fully functioning team with efficient processes, procedures, and training it can take up to a year.
As your team or church grows the need to adjust processes and procedures will change as well. Your team will need to be able to adapt to the ever changing population of your church.
Do you only train church Safety Teams?
No. We provide training for individuals to have the skills to effectively protect their families from threats, and to take action during medical emergencies.
